Chile is a long, narrow country that extends from the Andes Mountains to the Pacific Ocean on the southwest side of South America, from latitude 17° 30′ S in the Altiplano to 56° 30′ S at the far end of continental Chile and 90° S in its Antarctic territory. Chile’s main territory is roughly twice the size of Germany and consists of a strip of land 4,200 km long and 90 to 440 km wide. In the far south, the land is transected by hundreds of islands and fiords. Santiago is the country’s capital and largest city in terms of population and employment, with 6,061,185 inhabitants.
Santiago is the country’s main political, economic, cultural and industrial center. It is the gateway to Chile and one of the most modern capital cities on the continent.
Puerto Varas is a town in Chile's Lake District, lying on Lake Llanquihue overlooked by the snow-capped Calbuco and Osorno volcanoes. Puerto Varas is located in Chilean Patagonia and is home to the Mapuche and Huilliche people. Two menacing, snowcapped volcanoes, Osorno and Calbuco, stand sentinel over picturesque Puerto Varas and its scenic Lago Llanquihue like soldiers of adventure, allowing only those on a high-octane quest to pass. Just 23km from Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas has incredible scenery and different options for the traveler; it hosts many a wide range of different hotels and different accommodation options in all price ranges.
Puerto Varas is an important tourism hub and it's renowned for access to hiking trails in the Vicente Perez Rosales national park, water sports in the lake Todos los Santos, white-water rafting and kayaking in the Reloncavi fjord as well as fine dining in its many restaurants. The surrounding terrain ranges from lakeside beaches to temperate rainforest. Natural hot springs are found in nearby forested valleys.
Lake Llanquihue is a major centre of adventure tourism in Chile, attracting national and foreigner visitors alike. Due to its striking natural surroundings, Puerto Varas attracts tourism all year round. During the summer, popular tourist activities include horseback riding, bird watching, fishing, canopy trails, and canyoning in a multitude of national parks where the philanthropist’s Douglas Tompkins Pumalin national park ranks among its finest. These activities are easily arranged from the city itself, which harbors several tourist offices and travel agencies. Despite its relatively small urban area, accommodation infrastructure in Puerto Varas is well developed, ranging from backpacker hostels to luxury hotels. Chilean and international cuisine can be found in one of the several city restaurants. The closest major city to Puerto Varas is Puerto Montt, which sits just over 15 miles away by the sea and is Chile gateway to Patagonia. Puerto Varas is located is nearly 450 miles from Santiago and is served by an airport with multiple connectivity to Santiago and other national and international airports. It's relatively simple to reach Puerto Varas, and there are a variety of ways to get there.

Puerto Varas by Plane:
Santiago is easily reached by local and international flights and is served by a modern airport with plenty of regional and international connections. The conference will be held in Puerto Varas, which is very close to Puerto Montt, Chile’s largest southern city. Travelers who want to reach Puerto Varas by plane fly a short 1 hour 40 min flight in one of the more than 12 daily flights directly from Santiago into the Puerto Montt airport located 15 miles from Puerto Varas and is called Aeropuerto "El Tepual", which is open year-round and services commercial flights. The "El Tepual" airport services flights from LATAM Airlines, Sky Airline and JetSmart. Shuttles and taxis connect Independencia airport to Puerto Varas, so it's easy and cheap to get from one to the other.
